Two entries from the Philippines were chosen as finalists in the 2012 Japan Prize.

GMA-7?s documentary titled Report Card and TV5?s ?Floating School? episode made the cut in the said international educational program contest.

The ?Floating School? episode is from News5?s public affairs program USI (Under Special Investigation).

These two Pinoy entries will compete against submissions from China, Denmark, Germany, India, Japan, Kenya, Spain, and the United States.

54 entries were submitted for the welfare education category but only 12 were shortlisted as finalists.

As a result, the Philippine-produced entries are vying for the chance to win the coveted trophy dubbed as The President of NHK Prize.

GMA-7?s Report Card: Ang Antas ng Edukasyon sa Pilipinas was presented by newscaster Mike Enriquez and actor Dingdong Dantes.

The GMA News team documented the many ingenious, and often heart-wrenching, ways Filipinos try to educate themselves. It was aired on the Kapuso Network on July 31, 2011.

On the other hand, TV5?s USI episode featured a group of Manobo children who cross the Agusan marsh everyday to attend school. The ?Floating School? episode was aired last June 10 as the show?s Season 10 opener.

According to its official website, the Japan Prize was established in 1965 by the NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation). It aims to improve ?the quality of educational programs around the world and contribute to the development and fostering of international understanding and cooperation.?

The final selection will take place from October 18-25, 2012.?
